Biography

He was born in Buenos Aires in 1969. He is a pianist, composer and arranger. He has dabbled mostly in the genres of Jazz and Tango. He was a fellow of the Fondo Nacional de las Artes in 1998. He composed chamber works as well as music for film, theater and television. He joined the Quinteto Urbano (1999-2004), with whom he released three albums. He recorded with Lidia Borda album “Tal vez será su voz” in 2002. In 2007, he received a grant from the Government of the City of Buenos Aires to produce his first solo album “Tren” with own compositions.

Diego Schissi Quinteto is an Argentine tango group, originally formed in 2009, by Diego Schissi (piano and composition), Guillermo Rubino (violin), Santiago Segret (bandoneon and voice), Ismael Grossman (guitar) and Juan Pablo Navarro (double bass).

After years of uninterrupted work, they have established as one of the foremost groups in contemporary Tango worldwide. Their approach derives from traditional Tango and from there it blends with Jazz and other contemporary music trends.

They continued with the editions of some albums: “Tongos”, 2010 (reisssued in 2012 by Sunnyside records, an American New York based label), "Tipas y tipos”, 2012 (winner of the Premio Gardel 2012 to the Best alternative Tango group) and “Hermanos”, 2014 along with Aca Seca trío (a prominent Argentine alternative Folk group).

They also released a DVD “Tongos en vivo”, 2011. They toured in Argentina and around the world (France, Spain, Brazil, Uruguay and Colombia)

In 2016, they release their fourth album “Timba”. They also plan a European tour in September and will perform in Panamá and Chile for the first time.

In 2017 he received an order from Adrián Iaies (who directs the Usina del Arte) to arrange songs by Mariano Mores (1918-2016) and make a series of concerts led by provocative name Songbook Mores, the idea was to give a great interpreter-arranger the task of grouping the best of the work of this colossus of the tango repertoire. There were three dates in the Sala de Cámara of the Usina del Arte, for which Schissi wrote in record time the arrangements for his quintet, with the idea that there were some tangos sung by invited singers: Lidia Borda, Micaela Vita and Nadia Larcher. The three concerts were recorded and then the best shots were chosen, which later form part of their album "Tanguera (La música de Marino Mores) edited by Club del Disco in 2018.

The septet set up again at Estudios Doctor F between August 30 and September 1, 2019 to record a new work of their own compositions. Detained for a long time due to a pandemia, a new album entitled "Te" is finally released, which appears only at the beginning of the year 2021, again under the Club del Disco label. It is about 19 compositions whose starting point are the words of the song “Por”, track 3 of “Artaud”, the album signed by Pescado Rabioso but recorded alone by Luis Alberto Spinetta in 1973. Five years after Timba, Schissi once again says present with an album of his own music, to the delight of his many admirers. Te, without accent, because it refers (also) to the continuity of Schissi's titles, always with T as the first letter.
