Biography
Raíces is the name of the Argentine-Uruguayan rock-candombe fusion band, founded by Beto Satragni and Roberto Valencia in 1977.
Initially made up of Uruguayan bassist Beto Satragni and keyboardist Roberto Valencia, however, as the project did not advance, Valencia left the group and left for Europe and was replaced by a young keyboardist recommended by Sergio Makaroff: Andrés Calamaro. In 1978, the Auris record company released the group's first album called B.O.V Dombe, which became a success after its presentation at the Obras Stadium in Buenos Aires, in November of that year, after opening for the arrival of Serú Girán.
However, at the beginning of 1980, Calamaro left the group to form a duo with his friend Gringui Herrera, and was replaced by Martín Ordónez. Shortly afterwards, Ordónez was replaced by Leo Sujatovich and Juan Carlos Tordó took the place of Raúl Cuadro. With this lineup they recorded the second album, Los habitantes de la rutina (1980).
The years passed and the project had stopped. Another round of replacements occurred due to the impossibility of recording a third album and this instability, added to the fact that Satragni began his duo with drummer Oscar Moro, led to the dissolution of the group around 1984.
The band's return took place in May 1995, with performances at La Trastienda, with David Lebón and Ricardo Mollo as guest guitarists. The line-up that accompanied Satragni for the occasion was: Enrique Sinesi on guitar, Nora Sarmoria on keyboards, Gustavo Liangot and Ricardo Nolé on piano, Daniel Colombres on drums and Jimmy Santos and "La Foca" Machado on percussion.
In 1997 they released an EP of four songs, called "Ey Bo Road", which featured the participation of Calamaro on the song "Candombe de lasquinas".
In 2008, on the 30th anniversary of its founding, Satragni, Calamaro, Santos, Tordó and Bengolea met informally and recorded Raíces, 30 años, released by Litto Nebbia's label, Melopea.
