Biography
The group was formed by Elisa Wiermann (keyboards, production and compositions) and Cláudio Dantas (drums) who were keen on chamber music and Progressive Rock. The name Quaterna Réquiem, meaning "four at rest", was conceived by Cláudio for a former line up of a group. Cláudio and Elisa gathered people with certain discipline who were willing to carry out a serious work within an elaborated style. And above all people who were eager to work in order to improve the "product". After many line-ups, at the end of 1989 they played in Rio de Janeiro and in July 1990, they recorded their first LP "Velha Gravura".
In 1992, Quaterna Réquiem had a great impulse in their career with the release of the album "Velha Gravura" in CD, with bonus tracks. That was the first line up of the group: Besides the siblings Cláudio and Elisa, there were other musicians like Kleber Vogel (Kaizen), violinist of the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra, Marco Lauria, bass player (Marco was already a member of Quaterna since the very beginning with their typical style) and Jones Júnior (guitarist). Jones had already played with Cláudio, in the first version of the group.
The CD "Velha Gravura" has songs such as Ramoniana (by Jones Júnior), Aquartha, Velha Gravura, Tempestade, Madrugada, Toccata e Cárcere (by Elisa Wiermann), and Elegia (by Kleber Vogel); the two last songs were not included in the vinyl record, only in the CD. At the beginning of 1992, the group started playing in Rio de Janeiro, and other cities of that country. When Kleber Vogel left, Marco Lauria and Jones Júnior, the guitarist José Roberto Crivano, and the bass player Fábio Fernandez joined the group.
With this new line up, Quaterna recorded in 1994, their second album "Quasímodo", which has many compositions by Elisa, including a suite inspired in the romance "Nuestra Señora de Paris" by Victor Hugo, after which the album is named. These two records were distributed in specialized record stores of Brazil, Argentina, France, Italy, USA, Holland, Japan, Spain, South Korea, Chile, the former Soviet Union, Poland, etc.
Nowadays, Quaterna’s line up includes Cláudio, Elisa and José Roberto Crivano. For the next record, they will include distinguished musicians. Elisa already has two works composed and practically finished: "O Arquiteto", their project for 1999, also has a suite in 5 parts, inspired in the styles of 5 countries and styles of different times (Italy - Renaissance, France - Baroque/Classicism, USA - Modernism, Spain - Romanticism and Brazil - Modernism); and is working on the composition of their first solo album "Commedia" in 4 movements.
