Biography

Ernesto Vidal (Erni) is a musician (bass player), composer, producer and radio host from Mendoza, Argentina.Born in 1965, he started his career in 1979 under the tutelage of master bassman Carlos "Chito" Giunta, who came from a famous family of Mendoza musicians. In 1981, Erni played in local groups, such as Equus and Ether, in a variety of venues. Between 1982 and 1984, Erni participated in his first professional project: Beethoven &Cía. During 1985 he was a member of the group of the singer and composer Jorge Benegas. In the 90's he set up his own recording studio, "La Vizcachera Sound and Record Studio Mza," where many pop, rock and folk records were made. He also recorded there two of his own albums, performed by him and guest musicians. We are talking about Draghi ("sound tribute" to the work of writer and historian Don Juan Draghi Lucero) released by Mendoza State’s Secretary of Culture in 1997, and Fragments, in which participated well known musicians, such as superb local guitarist Mario Mátar, flutist Bety Plana and special guest KuberoDíaz (La Cofradía, La Pesada). La Vizcachera still operates today as a master, remix and remastering studio.

In September 2000, with drummer Eduardo "Tuti" Vega ,Erni initiated his most important group: ZondaProjeckt. Their first guitar player was Sebastián Rivas. However, it was in March 2001 when, with the replacement of Rivas by Mario Mátar -- a progressive rock figure in the province of Mendoza -- that the band reached its definitive style and recorded its debut disc El LlantoSecreto de la Luna, an independent release from January 2002. In 2003, they went from trio to quartet with the addition of keyboard player Gabriel Correa, touring different states with great success. ZP ceased activity in 2007 due to the health problems of guitar player Mario Mátar. During its life span, the group’s core (Mátar/Vidal/Vega) enjoyed the participation of important local musicians, such as Rodolfo Castagnolo (violin), Leo Costa (keyboards), Andrés Marino (keyboards), Ricardo Marino (voice, keyboards) Edgardo "Negro" Guerra (violoncello) , Alejandro Marangoni (flute) and others.

Finally, as a posthumous document in 2016, ViajeroInmóvilRecords label released ZondaProjeckt’s second record, Viento De Toda La Vida, a compilation of mostly live recordings of the band’s original compositions never recorded in studio. Erni Vidal and Mario Mátar undertook the executive and artistic direction of this last work by ZP, and Felipe Surkan did phonographic production for ViajeroInmóvil.

Erni Vidal also participated in the production and rescue of historic recordings of progressive rock from Mendoza. The most important was the Altablancaconcerts in Mendoza 1981, released by ViajeroInmóvil in 2013, after 10 years of retrieval, digitalization, cleaning and mastering.
